  • The execution project essentially involved renovating the building envelope (windows, roofs, and terrace floors) and completely adapting the bathrooms with plumbing from the sanitation area.

The renovation was carried out in two construction lots.

A: The roof structures were removed, and the roof was covered with a sloping insulation. The existing skylight domes were removed, rebuilt, and equipped with triple glazing. The two roofs of the stairwells were covered with thermal insulation and a sealing membrane. A community room was created on the ground floor and on the second floor of the student dorm wing by each breaking through a wall. In the second floor, the community room can be opened by a glass wall.

B: The second construction lot, which included adapting the bathrooms, was realized in the summer of 2012. The windows in the home wing were replaced with triple glazing and checked for their air tightness through a blower door test. The balcony on the east facade was shortened by approximately one meter in the longitudinal direction to improve the lighting conditions in the classrooms below. Likewise, in the classrooms on the first floor, the existing parapet height was removed. The glazing was installed at full room height, and the existing walkway in front of it was brought to floor level. The terrace floors were insulated with a polyurethane thermal insulation, and then the original flooring was reinstalled. An EPS thermal insulation was installed on the east and west facades. In all the renovation work, efforts were made to reuse the materials that had already been installed (terrace railing, terrace tiles, and the canopy) as much as possible.
